Bromham Elementary School - Wardhannapet, India

Children make amazing progress
The School opened its gates to 60 children in years 1 and 2 on 19th July 2010 and within a year the school had grown to three classes with nearly 90 children, all from the poorest Dalit caste in the village. Four teachers are giving lessons in English, Arithmetic, basic Science and Telagu, the local language.
Annual Review visit November 2011
Representatives from the Church, who attended the official opening of the school on 21st September 2010, have now been able to re-visit late last year to see how the school has progressed.
It was truly exciting to see how well the children had taken to their education and how well they were doing; some are already able to read and write in English when 18 months ago they were illiterate.
There is a happy and well disciplined atmosphere in the school and the teaching staff are all committed to the children in their care. The school is on course for formal registration with all the government's requirements having been met.
Much has also been achieved with the children in their hygiene and there have been wider positive impacts on the families with some mothers (many of whom are young widows) now able to go out to work and earn a wage.
We are so grateful to all those who have contributed to the construction of the school and to those who continue to support the on-going running costs of the school by their regular giving. Thank you so much.
Local Bromham links
Wonderfully, links have developed between Bromham Lower School and Bromham Scouts with Bromham Elementary School in India. Children here in Bromham have sent many most welcome gifts to the Dalit pupils in Wardhannapet and the School Parent Teacher Association ran a very successful Quiz Night to raise funds. Bromham Scouts raised sufficient funds to pay for a new water supply to the school in India. This has been so encouraging to all those in Bromham Elementary School.

The Future
We hope that by the end of this year, the building works will be complete and the school will be able to take in a further 3 classes and another 60 children.
We remain committed to providing sufficient money each year for these impoverished Dalit children to have free education.
We therefore need to continue raising funds to enable the school to make a real difference in the lives of its pupils through basic education.
Bromham Elementary School (BES) is a new primary school in a village 100 miles from Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh India. Ultimately it will provide free education for 150 children of the Dalit (Untouchable) caste who would otherwise have no chance of any schooling. It will have a strong Christian ethos.
History
A plot of land was purchased and building work started in March 2010.
The first phase was ready for use in July 2010 and officially opened in September 2010 with 60 children in two classes.
A third class was added in June 2011 and by March 2012, a further 3 classrooms will have been built ready for more pupils in the future.
This project is being supported both by Bromham Baptist Church and by individual donations.
