Yarl’s Wood

Since 2003 a few BBC members, led by John Braithwaite, have been security cleared to go into Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre near Clapham to conduct occasional Sunday services. This ministry is part of the multi-faith Religious Affairs Team at Yarl’s Wood, under Pastor Lonnie Haye.

 

Up to 400 detainees are held at any one time; about 120 women (and a few men) attend Sunday services. Due to the nature of Yarl’s Wood the congregation is constantly changing and, understandably, all the detainees are very anxious about what the future might hold for them. The encouragement we bring is greatly appreciated by the Christians there, many of whom have a strong and lively faith.
