Latest news from Cordoba
February 2026
We are writing this update on a very rainy day in Córdoba. England definitely wins when it comes to the number of rainy days, but a lot of the days it's drizzle and grey skies. In contrast, in Córdoba we can have 4-5 consecutive months without any rain and average temperatures of 35°C. Then there are 2 or 3 periods in the year when it rains heavily amongst without stopping for days at a time.
This last month the reservoirs have received as much rain as they normally do in 8 years! As we're in the city centre, normally people walk everywhere, but with flooding and extremely heavy rain life is disrupted. Today the schools and Universities are shut in Córdoba and last night it was pretty dangerous as Terry was driving back from a concert on the Málaga coast at Midnight.
Please can we ask you to pray for Cristina’s health. She was ill during our sabbatical, but things seemed to be fine until about November when she started having strong pain in both arms and shortly afterwards pain in her feet, which we think is probably planta fasciitis. Then, since a a couple of weeks ago, she has been suffering from vertigo, so the combination of the 3 things together is pretty incapacitating.
We normally have a few medical appointments with her parents, but recently, with Cristina as well, we have had a lot more, and this week we will have had 8 by the end of the week, spread through a number of hospitals and health centres. It obviously impacts what we can do in terms of our core ministry of meeting people, although Cristina has battled on with the normal activities. Terry just has to drive her or we find someone else to help.
As we mentioned in our last update, these last few weeks have we have had the train crash just north of our city, and our close friend Vania had a heart attack (at 40). Last week, María (53), the wife of one of the other Pastors, died suddenly from a very aggressive cancer. These are painful times but also have provided opportunities to talk about life, eternity and Jesus with different people.
We also had a good first evening meal last Friday. It was an evening of 2 halves, with the first hour of the meal discussing some deep questions from Chat GPT and the second half in true Andalucian style turning into an impromptu Karaoke session as one of the girls took out her phone and started to dance, followed by a number of collaborative sing-songs!
Please pray for those who are considering eternity more seriously at the moment (Lolo, Nina, Jordan, Cristina and Carmen), for opportunities for follow up conversations with them and for the Holy Spirit to convict them of their need to put their trust Jesus.
Please can you also continue to pray for team for us as it is often lonely and hard to really grow things on our own. When we joined ECM, one of the things that attracted us was the sense of working in teams and God provided a few great years of working in a team at the beginning of our time in Montilla, plus some sporadic moments of support and teamwork, but we have probably been at least 15 of our 23 years in Spain on our own.
Jesus encouraged his disciples to pray for the Lord of the Harvest to send out workers so we would encourage you to pray that God would provide the co-workers we need to keep pushing forwards, to help others come to know Jesus and to grow the small church.
With love in Jesus,
Terry and Cristina
